Here in Rhode Island, we take our kitchens very seriously. But let’s be honest—sometimes the best part of having a beautiful kitchen is using it as a landing pad for a box of fresh, local pastries. If there’s one thing Little Rhody knows how to do right, it’s old-school Italian baking. Whether you’re planning a milestone celebration, mapping out a beach day, or just looking to elevate your weekend coffee routine, we’ve rounded up a few local gems that deserve a permanent spot on your counter.

Why do we have such strong opinions about delicious baked goods? Our designer Adrienne grew up in her grandfather's bakery!

Grab a napkin, because we're diving in.

Maybe you don’t just want to eat the cake—maybe you want to learn how to make it look like a work of art yourself! If you're looking for a fun night out (or a great gift idea), you need to check out Chef Danielle. A JWU alumna, she hosts incredible hands-on baking and cake decorating classes that bring people together over great food and hospitality. She also happens to be a part of the KBD family! Learn the tricks of the trade, then bring those skills back to show off in your own kitchen!

You can’t talk about Rhode Island baking tradition without stopping in Johnston. If you’re gearing up for a beach day at Narragansett or Scarborough, this is your mandatory first stop. Forget the fancy picnic baskets; what you need is a box of their legendary pizza chips or a couple of strips of classic Rhode Island party pizza (served at room temp, just the way it should be). It’s the ultimate, salty ocean-side snack.

DeLuise Bakery (Providence)

An absolute staple of the Chalkstone Avenue neighborhood since 1938 - and Adrienne's wedding cake baker - DeLuise is pure nostalgia wrapped in a pink pastry box. If you’ve ever been to a Rhode Island wedding and tasted a cake that was impossibly light, perfectly sweet, and beautifully detailed, there's a very good chance it came from the master decorators here. Beyond their jaw-dropping wedding cakes, you can't walk out without a few of their iconic chocolate frosted donuts.

Pastryland Bakery (Smithfield)

Heading up to the northern part of the state? Pastryland on Sanderson Road is an absolute must-visit. This family-owned gem does a little bit of everything, from artisanal breads to homemade gelato. But if you happen to stop by during Saint Joseph’s Day season—or frankly, any time you want to treat yourself—their zeppoles are the stuff of legend. Thick, rich custard nestled in a perfect pastry shell? Yes, please.
