Dog Blog: Holidays & Remodels

Hi, my name's Kiel! My mom is Adrienne, the lead designer at Kitchens By Design. Since I sometimes hang out at the showroom and I like getting my nose into things, I thought I would help her out with this blog.

So, I interviewed Ellie! Her mom is my mom’s sister, so I guess that makes her my cousin. We hang out all the time! This is us at the beach house where we like to hang out during the summer. In this interview, we talk about her favorite snacks, how she likes her human’s updated kitchen, and a few other things. Anyway, let’s get to this interview. I have things to go sniff.

K: Ellie, what is your favorite snack and where do your humans keep it?

E: I am obsessed with chicken! I love it so, so, so, so much. My Grandme brings pieces of it over for me. I love it when she visits. She keeps it in that big ice box that makes noises in the kitchen. Pretty sure I heard the humans call it, “a refrigerator.” All that I know is that’s where the chicken is, so whenever a human goes in there I stand next to them. Sometimes they give me chicken, sometimes they don’t.

K: Chicken is an awesome snack… do you like chicken strips?

E: Um, obviously I love chicken strips! My mom makes them for me. She keeps the dehydrator she uses in a roll out shelf so it’s easy for her to access. She also keeps the crockpot she uses to make my food above the fridge! Dad says that the engineered stone counter is easy to clean after making my healthy dog food. I’m not allowed on the counter though, so I haven’t been able to test it out for myself.

Pull out trays such as the one above are an excellent storage option.

K: Are there any snacks you don’t like?

E: Definitely. This is actually good for us to talk about since the holidays are coming up! Peppermint flavoring can make us dogs feel really sick, especially in sugar free candy canes. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that can be poisonous! Ham has too much salt for us. Onion and garlic are also bad for dogs, which is why my humans always give me unseasoned meat (without bones!). Things with butter and dairy, like mashed potatoes, can make us feel icky, too.

K: That is really good to know! Do you know what holiday treats are okay for us?

E: Actually I do! We can have unseasoned turkey, carrots and green beans. We can also have pumpkin, but not anything with pumpkin spice seasoning! White potatoes and sweet potatoes without anything added to them are also great snacks.

K: Thanks for the snack update. I’ll definitely let my mom know. Where did you stay while your humans remodeled the kitchen?

E: My mom kept me upstairs in the crate. It’s actually my favorite place to be! It helps me feel safe and it’s a cozy spot for me to hang out. Mom put a blanket over my crate during the remodel so I could snuggle and be safe.

Ellie's kitchen features Ultracraft Avon cherry cabinets with Coastal Grey stain, and a porcelain floor. Her counters are engineered quartz.

K: Do you like the flooring the humans picked out?

E: It’s cold on my paws which is awesome in the summer. It’s also really easy to walk on - I don’t slip around! Mom says she picked out this floor because it’s pretty and easy to clean (which is nice because she’s always cleaning up after me). It hides my fur and muddy paw prints. Plus, I drool all over the place when I drink my water but it doesn’t seem to stain the floor.

K: What else do you like about the updated kitchen?

A black dog in a turkey costume.

E: The open floor plan is fantastic! I love being able to see everything as it’s happening. The new door to the deck is also really great. I can keep a lookout for the squirrels and birds. They want to steal my chicken, I just know it… we can’t let that happen. The one thing I don’t like is the pull out trash can. I can’t get my nose in there for extra tasty things. Which is another reason why I must protect my chicken from the squirrels…

Hopefully you enjoyed reading through my interview with Ellie! We love chatting about snacks, especially snacks that are good for us, and how Ellie’s humans kept her in mind while they remodeled their kitchen. Send my mom an inquiry if you are ready for a dog friendly kitchen, too! Okay, that’s all for now. I have to go get into the holiday spirit.

See you next time!
